Day 1: Diyarbakir - Mt. Nemrut (L/D)
Meet and greet at the Diyarbakir airport. Begin with a visit to the old city surrounded by massive black basalt walls, second only to the Great Wall of China in length and height. Continue to the Archeological Museum and the Cahit Sitki Taranci Museum. Then drive to Kahta in the Adiyaman province, with a stop to walk over the two thousand year old Roman Bridge in Cendere. Pass through Arsemia, the former capital of Commagene. Finally, climb the extraordinary mountain sanctuary of Nemrut. Enjoy the sunset amongst great statues and heads of kings and gods of King Antiochus’s mausoleum. Its isolated and unexpected setting gives this area a surreal feeling. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Kahta.
Day 2: Mt. Nemrut – Ankara (B/L/D)
An early morning climb to the top of Mt. Nemrut to watch the sunrise is available upon request. Transfer to Diyarbakir Airport for a flight to Ankara. After a late lunch, visit the Museum of the Anatolian Civilizations, housing priceless collections from the prehistoric era. Then visit the Mausoleum of Ataturk--the founder of modern Turkey. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Ankara.
Day 3: Ankara – Cappadocia (B/L/D)
Drive to the surrealistic region of Cappadocia. Start with a visit of Goreme National Park—an open-air museum o 15 churches large and small, seven refectories and various tombs and cellars. Visit the Citadel of Uchisar and Guvercinlik Valley, also called Pigeon Valley for the hundreds of holes perforating the rock face thanks to bird droppings. Finish with a stop in Esentepe. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Cappadocia.
Day 4: Cappadocia – Kayseri (B/L)
Enjoy a full day tour of Cappadocia. Drive to the Underground City of Derinkuyu, consisting of seven complex layers with rooms for anything from grain storage and wine aging to animal stables. Continue to Kizilcukur Valley and Cavusin. After lunch, visit the Valley of Ortahisar, then continue to Catalkaya. Finally, drive to the Kayseri Airport for your flight to Istanbul and onward travels.
