Tunisia
Tunisia, caught between the Mediterranean Sea and the Saharan desert, the people of this fascinating country have had to negotiate both sides. It has mastered the caravan routes of the Sahara and the waters of the Mediterranean. The Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Spaniards, Turks and most recently the French, have all left their imprint, while the Phoenicians and Arabs are the cornerstone of their modern national identity.
This afternoon arrival at Tunis International Airport where you will be met and transferred to your luxury hotel overlooking the blue Mediterranean sea.
Day 2: Tunis (B)
Visit Tunis and the Bardo National museum, housed in the former palace of the Bey. Bardo museum hosts one of the finest collections of Roman mosaics in the world. You will lunch at a typical Tunisian restaurant in the city's medina. Tour Tunis' wonderful souq with its Zitouna Mosque and other historic monuments as you wander through a maze of narrow streets.
Day 3: Day trip to Dougga (B) 

This morning travel outside of Tunis to the ancient Roman ruins at Dougga known as “The city of the Temples”. One of Tunisia's most dramatic sites, it contains what some consider the most beautiful single Roman monument in North Africa. You will lunch at a charming countryside restaurant and then visit Bulla Regia. This extraordinary Roman site has underground villas which were built by wealthy inhabitants, unique in the Roman Empire. You will explore the Memmian Baths and Treasure house along with the temples and churches comprising this historic site.
Day 4: Tunis - Kairouan (B)
This morning depart on your drive though the countryside to Tunisia's oldest Arab city, Kairouan. This is Islam's fourth most holy center after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. You will visit its Great Mosque, which resembles a fortress in its architectural design. You will also visit Sidi Sahab Mausoleum with its exquisite tile work. You will stay in a converted casbah, beautifully restored and located in the heart of the medina of Kairouan.

Day 5: Day trip to Sbeitla [Sufetula] (B)
After a leisurely breakfast drive to the desert locale of Sbeitla where you will tour the 'ghostly' ruins of Sufetula with its Great Baths, theater, forum and churches and temples.. Late afternoon return to Kairouan.
Day 6: Kairouan - Mahdia - Sousse (B)
Continuing your drive through Tunisia's countryside you will visit the ancient Roman amphitheater at El Jem, one of Tunisia's most surprising sights. This coliseum with its serried mass of arches rising majestically over this otherwise nondescript village is a wonder to behold. You will also visit the small archeological museum, built on the plan of a Roman villa and houses a fine collection of mosaics. You will continue your drive to the Tunisian coast and the small seaside village of Mahdia where you will have lunch. Following, you will continue your drive up the coast to the seaside town of Sousse.
Day 7: Sousse (B)
Today tour this fortified coastal town and visit the city's medina with its interesting gate, and its lovely museum, its collection second only to the famed Bardo in Tunis.
Day 8: Sousse - Tunis (B)
Early this morning you will drive up along the coast towards Tunis, visiting enroute the great capital of the Carthaginian Empire with its beautiful Archeological Museum. Lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon transfer to your hotel.

Day 9: Tunis (B)
Today explore the nearby quaint and picturesque seaside village of Sidi Bou Said. You will lunch at one of the local restaurants and have the afternoon free to browse this city's art galleries and shops, many housed in uniform whitewashed buildings with carved stone doorways, blue doors and delicate window grills.
Day 10: Depart Tunis (B)
This morning transfer to Tunis International Airport for departure home.
