CLASSIC NAMIBIA (Thursday) from $2620 per person sharing

Day 1:

Midday departure from Johannesburg to Windhoek. On arrival, transfer to Windhoek Country Club or similar. B&B

Day 2:

Travel via the village of Karibib, known for its marble and selection of Namibian semi-precious gemstones. On to Swakopmund, a popular holiday resort, wedged between the desert dunes and the Atlantic Ocean. En route see the celebrated ancient Welwitschia plants and visit the unearthly Moon Valley. Overnight Hansa Hotel or similar. B/B/L

Day 3:

Morning excursion to the harbor town of Walvis Bay for a Marine Cruise along the harbor, Pelican Point and the famous seabird colonies in the lagoon. Watch seals, dolphins, and the occasional whale in their natural habitat. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight Hansa Hotel or similar. B/B.

Day 4:

Travel north along the Skeleton Coast to Henties Bay and Cape Cross Seal Reserve. Hundreds of seals cavorting in the ocean. The journey continues to Damaraland, passing the impressive Brandberg Mountain and the abandoned tin mine of Uls. Overnight Twyfelfontein Lodge or similar. D/B/B

Day 5:

Explore the magnificent landscapes of the central Huab River Valley. Visit the prehistoric rock art galleries at Twyfelfontein, the Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes - spectacular columns of dolerite. Visit the Petrified Forest, preceding to, via Khorixas, the old administrative capital of Namibia to Outjo. Etosha Garden Hotel. D/B/B

Day 6:

Full day game viewing in Etosha National Park. Mokuti Lodge.D/B/B.

Day 7:

After breakfast, a morning game drive in the park. Around midday depart the park and travel south though the copper and gemstone mining town of Tsumeb to the Otavi area in the central highlands. Overnight Khorab Lodge or similar. D/B/B

Day 8:

Head back toward Windhoek passing through the garden-town of Otjiwarongo, and on to Okahandja, the administrative center of the Herero people. Visit the market before returning to Windhoek Country Club or similar. B/B.

Day 9:

Morning at leisure and midday departure to airport for return to Johannesburg.
